Unveiling the Sharks Exhibit

Prepare to be awed as we recount our recent adventure to the fascinating Sharks Exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. This exhibit has been making waves since the beginning of summer, and we were fortunate enough to experience it firsthand. Based in the heart of Houston, we’re members of various museums in the area, but the Houston Museum of Natural Science holds a special place in our hearts.

Discovering the Exhibit

Our journey begins with the anticipation of the Sharks Exhibit, a mesmerizing exploration of these majestic creatures that roam the ocean’s depths. As we set out to embark on this underwater adventure, we had high expectations due to our recent encounters with other shark exhibits. However, keep in mind that admission to this exhibit is not included in the general ticket price. As members, we still paid $20 per ticket, but for non-members, the cost is higher $35 for adults and $27 for children.

Comparing Experiences

Having recently visited the Texas State Aquarium and the Discovery Pyramid at Moody Gardens, which also featured shark exhibits, we had plenty of recent memories to draw upon. This, in turn, allowed us to evaluate the uniqueness and value of the Sharks Exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Exploring the Highlights

The Sharks Exhibit presented an array of captivating elements, from the awe-inspiring Megalodon to interactive touch screens that engaged young minds. A touch tank offered a chance to connect with marine life, while a baby bamboo shark stole the show in another enclosure. A unique feature was the “shock and scare” display, showcasing a shattering glass as a shark crashes into it—an amusing sight to behold.

A Deeper Dive

The exhibit further educated visitors about the anatomy and behavior of sharks. It featured a hammerhead shark viewer, providing insights into how these creatures navigate their surroundings. Additionally, an interactive shark tooth identification activity engaged kids, sparking their curiosity and enriching their learning experience with a shark tooth to take home.

A Balanced Perspective

While the Sharks Exhibit offers an array of fascinating features, the cost of admission raises questions about its overall value. A family of four could easily spend over $100 for this exhibit alone, which might seem steep when compared to other engaging and interactive options available in the Houston area. It’s important to note that this assessment is shaped by our recent experiences with other shark exhibits.

Final Thoughts and Your Decision

As we wrap up our exploration of the Sharks Exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, it’s essential to consider your family’s preferences, interests, and budget. While the exhibit boasts engaging elements and captivating displays, its cost raises valid questions. If you’re in the Houston area and have the opportunity to visit, I’d encourage you to make your own decision based on your family’s unique circumstances.
